Thank you parents and students for a great opening of school!  It is a challenge remembering everyone’s name but I was energized by all the smiling faces!  Thank you Fr. Sy, Fr. Mike, and Fr. Seamus for joining me as we welcomed students and parents return to school on Monday morning.  In particular, I would like to thank Fr. Sy for preparing an excellent homily.  Fr. Sy shared a wonderful message with the students about having the courage to do the right thing and expecting others to do the same.  I hope that the message will inspire our students to be their best as they strive to bring the gospel message to life.

The school days have been brief but filled with lots of activity and catching up with friends, old and new.  We even lost our first tooth of the school year!  Thank you students, parents, faculty, volunteers, and staff for making the first days of school safe, successful, and fun!  It has been a great start to a great school year!

Go Wolfpack!

St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School is off to a wonderful new year!  After being welcomed into their classrooms, students had the opportunity to watch the morning prayers and announcements being broadcast through the televisions and SMART Boards across campus.  This is an old tradition that has been brought back this year much to the delight of our not so camera shy student council.

After walking students to their new classrooms, parents were invited to a social convocation before attending the all school mass.  Principal Tom Waszak, Fr. Mike Hanifin, and Fr. Seamus Glenn were there to meet with parents as they welcomed the new school year.  Many parents remained after the beginning of the school day to enjoy the company of other parents and friends on the first day of school.

Founded in prayer, our school community began with an all school mass celebrated by both Fr. Sy Nguyen, pastor of St. Martin de Porres Parish, and Fr. Seamus Glenn, founding pastor of both San Antonio Parish and St. Francis of Assisi Catholic School.  Fr. Sy provided our campus’ first lesson of the year:  to model ourselves after St. John the Baptist and love God, love our friends, and have the courage to help our friends do what is right.

Saint Francis of Assisi School will take the Iowa Test of Basic Skills from Monday, September 26, 2011 to Monday, October 3, 2011. All students in the Diocese of Orange will be taking these tests as one diagnostic tool to help design direct instruction to meet the needs of all of our students.

Please make sure your students get a good night’s sleep, eat a good breakfast and bring a healthy snack during our testing week. All students will need to bring two number two sharpened pencils with a good eraser. Testing begins right after prayer at 8:15 A.M. so be sure all students arrive at school on time. Please do not schedule medical appointments for these dates.
